Nissan To Launch Next-Generation ProPILOT System in FY2027, Partnering With Wayve To Advance Smart Mobility

Apr 15, 2025

Tokyo, April 10, 2025 - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that it will begin equipping its mass-production vehicles with the next-generation ProPILOT autonomous driving system starting in fiscal year 2027. The new system will integrate Nissan's proprietary "real-time road sensing" technology, cutting-edge LiDAR sensors, and the "Wayve AI Driver" software developed in collaboration with UK-based autonomous driving startup Wayve. This initiative marks a significant leap forward in Nissan's commitment to safer and more intelligent mobility.

The upcoming ProPILOT system represents a major milestone in Nissan's autonomous driving strategy. At its core, the system combines multi-source environmental perception with advanced AI decision-making capabilities. The Wayve AI Driver is built on Wayve's embodied intelligence foundation model and leverages state-of-the-art end-to-end AI technology to enable autonomous driving in both highway and complex urban environments. The system demonstrates human-level cognitive ability and is capable of handling unprecedented driving scenarios by continuously learning from real-world traffic data.

The inclusion of high-precision LiDAR technology enhances the system's ability to accurately detect and respond to surrounding conditions, significantly improving collision avoidance, path planning, and dynamic obstacle navigation. Additionally, Nissan's real-time road sensing technology collects and analyzes environmental data to support smarter and safer driving decisions.

Nissan emphasized that as the automotive industry moves rapidly toward smarter mobility, consumer expectations are evolving accordingly. Intelligent systems are now at the heart of this transformation. The next-generation ProPILOT system reflects Nissan's long-term vision of achieving zero accidents and zero emissions, representing a major step forward in its transition from driver assistance to advanced autonomous driving.

According to industry forecasts, intelligent and autonomous vehicles are expected to account for a significant portion of global car sales by 2030. By partnering with leading AI innovators, Nissan is building a future-ready technology platform and product ecosystem. This strategic move further strengthens Nissan's position in the competitive smart mobility space.

Looking ahead, Nissan will continue to expand its R&D and production capabilities globally, accelerating the deployment of its autonomous driving solutions to deliver safer, smarter, and more efficient mobility experiences for drivers worldwide.
