Mazda EZ-6 Debuts: A Strategic Partnership With Changan To Drive New Energy Innovation

Dec 06, 2024

In 2001, the Mazda6 made its grand debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, quickly capturing the attention of global consumers with its distinctive design and outstanding performance. However, as the era of new energy vehicles dawned, Mazda's brand influence gradually declined in the domestic market. Facing the formidable challenge of electrification, Mazda has forged a deep partnership with Changan Automobile, leveraging the mature EPA hybrid platform technology to introduce a groundbreaking mid-size vehicle: the Mazda EZ-6. Through this collaboration, Mazda aims to achieve growth against market trends and revitalize its brand image.

The Mazda EZ-6 offers four range-extended versions and three pure electric variants, with a price range of ¥139,800 to ¥179,800. To attract buyers, Mazda has also rolled out several promotional packages, including renewal bonuses, peace-of-mind benefits, and upgrade incentives, enhancing the appeal of this new model.

Design-wise, the EZ-6 carries forward Mazda's iconic "Kodo" design language, boasting sleek and dynamic lines. Its "Light Wing" illuminated front grille and other detailed elements convey both high recognizability and a sense of advanced technology. Inside, the minimalist interior aligns with current trends, featuring a 10.1-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 14.6-inch floating central control screen as standard. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and advanced voice control systems, the EZ-6 ensures a smooth and intelligent user experience.

In terms of performance, the EZ-6 reflects Mazda's relentless pursuit of driving pleasure. The range-extended models are powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a rear-mounted single motor, offering a maximum electric range of up to 200km. The pure electric variants feature lithium iron phosphate batteries, providing a driving range of up to 600km. With a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, multi-link rear suspension, and IPB intelligent braking system, the EZ-6 delivers exceptional handling capabilities.

Safety remains a core focus for the Mazda EZ-6. The vehicle's body comprises 86% high-strength steel, with up to 2,000 MPa in key areas. Standard features include nine airbags, 19 active safety driving assistance systems, and a 3C super-fast charging "Qiji" battery, offering comprehensive safety protection for drivers and passengers.

The collaboration with Changan marks a significant milestone for Mazda in its pursuit of new energy innovation. The EZ-6 stands as a testament to the brand's technological capabilities and market insight, serving as a crucial element in its transformation journey. Looking ahead, the EZ-6 has the potential to become Mazda's flagship model in the new energy segment, paving the way for broader market success and helping the brand reclaim its former glory.
