Chengdu, August 21, 2024 - The press briefing for the 2024 World Power Battery Conference (hereinafter referred to as the "Conference") was held this morning in Chengdu. The Conference will be grandly held from September 1 to 2, 2024, in Yibin City, Sichuan Province. It is organized by the People's Government of Sichuan Province, with co-organization from the People's Government of Yibin City and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology.
The theme of this year's Conference is "New Quality Power · Creating a Green Future." It will focus on national strategic deployment, promote high-quality development of the power battery industry, and accelerate the formation of new quality productivity. The Conference will showcase the latest technological achievements, cutting-edge application scenarios, and collaborative development across the power battery industry chain, injecting new vitality into the global power battery industry.
According to the Conference organizing committee, the event will feature the United Arab Emirates as the guest of honor, with nearly 400 guests expected to attend, including the UAE Ambassador to China, officials from consulates in Chengdu and Chongqing, academicians, experts, scholars, and key figures from domestic and international industry associations and leading enterprises. More than 180 industry-leading companies, including CATL, BYD, and Tesla, have confirmed their participation, with over 70% of the guests representing the power battery and new energy vehicle industry chain.
During the Conference, there will be an opening ceremony, six thematic sessions, two online live interviews, and various other activities, including exhibitions. The thematic sessions will cover advanced battery technologies, new energy storage, supply chain management of the new energy industry, and power battery regulations and standards. The exhibitions will focus on cutting-edge technology applications such as electric tools, low-altitude economy, humanoid robots, and electric ships, offering a visual and knowledge feast for attendees.
Additionally, the Conference will specially invite the UAE as the guest of honor and hold an opening ceremony for the guest country pavilion. This not only recognizes the UAE's achievements in the power battery field but also serves as an important initiative to establish an international cooperation platform for the development of the power battery industry. This platform will provide opportunities for enterprises from various countries to enhance communication and collaboration, jointly promoting innovation in the power battery industry.
Sichuan Province, a key hub for the national power battery industry, has achieved significant results. Currently, the province hosts over 200 companies across the power battery industry chain, with five companies in the top ten for power battery installations in China, four of which are also in the global top ten. Sichuan has developed a complete industry chain system, from lithium resource development and upstream material supply to battery component production and recycling. It has established an industry layout with Yibin as the main hub, complemented by collaborative development in Chengdu, Meishan, Deyang, Dazhou, Ganzi, and Aba.
In 2023, Sichuan produced 105.4 GWh of power batteries, a year-on-year increase of 27%, accounting for about one-sixth of the national total. In the first half of this year, Sichuan's power battery production reached 64.6 GWh, up 56.4% year-on-year, making up about one-fifth of the national production.
Sichuan has hosted the World Power Battery Conference in Yibin for two consecutive years, signing over 100 projects with a total investment exceeding 200 billion yuan. It is expected that by 2025, the total output value of the entire power battery industry chain in the province will reach 500 billion yuan, making Sichuan one of the regions with the most complete industry chain and strongest comprehensive competitiveness.
