Toyota has officially unveiled its new compact electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser, designed specifically for the European market. The vehicle is set to make its debut at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2025. As a key part of Toyota's electrification strategy, the Urban Cruiser combines cutting-edge design with advanced technology to meet growing market demands while strengthening Toyota's position in the EV sector.
The Urban Cruiser is built on Toyota's latest electric vehicle platform, offering both robustness and lightweight design. By eliminating traditional floor crossbeams, the platform provides ample space for the battery pack while ensuring the safety of high-voltage components. Its spacious and flexible interior layout caters to user preferences for both comfort and practicality.
In terms of powertrains, the Urban Cruiser comes with three configurations:
- Front-wheel drive with a 49kWh battery (106kW output);
- Front-wheel drive with a 61kWh battery (128kW output);
- All-wheel drive with a 61kWh battery (135kW output).
The front-wheel-drive versions deliver a maximum torque of 189 Nm, while the all-wheel-drive model achieves 300 Nm. This range of options not only enhances driving enjoyment but also meets diverse driving needs.
The exterior design follows Toyota's "Urban Tech" philosophy, blending modern aesthetics with a sense of strength. The vehicle's dimensions-4285mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1640mm in height, and a 2700mm wheelbase-make it slightly larger than the hybrid Yaris Cross. This size ensures agility for urban driving while offering practical interior space.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser features a clean and sophisticated cabin design, utilizing black and dark gray soft-touch materials for a premium feel. It includes sliding rear seats, 12-color ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.1-inch multimedia display, creating a balance between comfort and advanced technology.
All versions of the Urban Cruiser are equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety and driver assistance systems, such as pre-collision detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts, and lane-keeping assistance.
