Kia Reaffirms 2030 EV Sales Target Amid Market Challenges

Nov 15, 2024

Korean automaker Kia has reaffirmed its dedication to electrification despite the challenges posed by shifting policies and global economic uncertainties. The company remains focused on achieving its target of selling 1.6 million electric vehicles annually by 2030.

Kevin Ahn, President and CEO of Kia Asia-Pacific, stated during a recent event, "The market is evolving rapidly, with significant uncertainties this year. Although we have not introduced a large volume of new models, we are confident in our long-term strategic direction."

Ahn emphasized that the company's EV targets remain unchanged. "We anticipate obstacles and market fluctuations as we work towards the goal of selling 1.6 million EVs annually by 2030. Adjustments in government policies may impact sales to some extent, but we are confident in overcoming these challenges through steady strategic efforts," he said.

In discussing the U.S. market, Ahn revealed Kia's plans to produce electric vehicles at its plant in Georgia to enhance supply chain flexibility. Meanwhile, the company has already commenced EV production in China and plans to launch small electric vehicles in Europe to meet diverse market demands.

When asked about the potential effects of recent global political and economic developments, Ahn declined to comment on specifics, noting that it was too early to assess the implications of the recent U.S. elections. However, he reiterated Kia's commitment to expanding its EV production footprint across key markets to better address market needs and strengthen its competitiveness.

These initiatives highlight Kia's deep focus on the global electric vehicle market and its long-term commitment to advancing the transition toward electrification.
