Southeast Asia is at the core of GAC Aion's high-tech global strategy. Following the commencement of operations at the Thailand factory on July 17th, GAC Aion has expedited its progress in the Indonesian market. On July 26th, the first batch of 500 GAC Aion Y Plus vehicles were successfully loaded onto ships at Xinsa Port, embarking on their journey to Indonesia. This export marks a significant milestone for GAC Aion's entry into the Indonesian market.
Indonesia boasts abundant resources and robust economic development. It not only holds the largest population in Southeast Asia but also serves as the region's largest economy and automotive market, featuring the only million-unit scale automotive market in Southeast Asia and immense growth potential. Moreover, Indonesia possesses rich nickel ore reserves, which are advantageous for the rapid development of the new energy industry.
In April this year, GAC Aion officially entered the Indonesian market and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the leading local automotive group, INDOMOBILE. This collaboration spans various sectors including vehicle manufacturing, automotive sales and services, finance, energy ecology, mobility markets, and the entire industrial chain.
In response to the rapidly expanding Indonesian market, GAC Aion is currently meeting the surging demand for electric vehicles through complete vehicle exports. Simultaneously, the company continues to advance the construction of its Indonesian factory, which is expected to be completed and commence operations by the end of this year. At that time, GAC Aion will adopt localized production to deliver more competitive products to local consumers. With dual factories in Thailand and Indonesia as the core, GAC Aion aims to meet the demands of the Southeast Asian market and expand to other global markets. In addition to the Aion Y Plus, the second generation Aion V and other flagship models are also set to enter the Indonesian market, offering local consumers a higher value proposition for pure electric mobility.
Since 2023, GAC Aion has accelerated its global expansion strategy and successfully entered and developed markets in 19 countries and regions in the first half of 2024. Looking ahead, GAC Aion plans to enter markets such as Qatar and Mexico. The company will continue its high-tech globalization efforts, optimizing its global footprint to provide more high-quality products not only for global consumers but also integrating leading global new energy vehicle "lighthouse factory" manufacturing technologies as per local conditions. This includes collaborating with local partners to optimize the industrial chain layout and nurturing high-end talents suited for the new energy vehicle sector.
